Runaway Jury Movie Protects Big Tobacco!
My wife, Anna and I went to see the movie, Runaway Jury the other night and what I saw really upset me and highlights how Hollywood tries to shape our thinking.
You see, I had previously read the Grisham novel, Runaway Jury, that is about how large corporations secure the verdict they want by tampering with the jury, pulling strings on the jurors and their families to get the outcome they desire. In the book, the defendents are big tobacco, but, miraculously, in the movie, the defendent becomes gun manufacturers!
Now, I'm not defending gun manufacturers, it's certainly a tragedy the number of people killed by guns, but I think this pales in comparison to a product that kills many more people around the world and kills you when you use it as directed.
I understand the need, when adapting a book to screen, to make a change here and there, to leave things out. All this is necessary to keep the movie under 2 hours. There was no time saving in changing the defendants from big tobacco to firearms manufacturers. In other words, there was no good reason to do it other than Hollywood couldn't afford to alienate one of the industries that participates in product placement in the movies. Stars smoke to convey a cool image, and I'm willing to bet that many of the people working on the movie, both in front of and behind the camera, are smokers.
It's safe to say that none of these people have ever shot up a Post Office or their place of employment so they can feel sanctimonious lecturing to the rest of us while having "cancer sticks" hanging from their mouth.
It's clear to see (if you can see through the literal smokscreen) why you can't get good health information from Hollywood or form the elite media for that matter.

Safe Thermogenesis & Weight Loss
Ephedra has been under fire lately and maybe deservedly so. Even though there are several responsible producers that have made good products, there are also several thermogenic bombs that can be quite dangerous. But, Life Scientists, Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw, authors of the best selling Life Extension book, have the ultimate safe thermogenesis tips. What they have you do is dress as light as possible for the situation. For instance, a man wearing a 2 piece tropical suit will burn 25 pounds more fat per year than a man that wears a 3 piece wool suit. A woman wearing a tank top and shorts burns 25 pounds more fat than the same woman wearing a long sleeved shirt and jeans.
A portion of the calories that we eat goes to our "heating bill". It takes energy to keep us at 98.6 degrees when the environment is 72 degrees. The more we rely on our body, not our clothes to maintain this difference, the more calories we burn. Try it, even if you need to turn up the heat a couple of degrees at first to keep from shivering. Just reduce the heat each day by about a half degree until you are as comfortable in your light clothes as you formerly were in your heavier clothes.
Remember thermogenesis means heat creation. Help your body create more heat by ditching some of the heavier clothing.

Carnosine & Longevity
Have you heard about carnosine? It is one of the most incredible anti-aging compounds available. Technically, a dipeptide, carnosine is a combination of two amino acids; beta alanine and histidine. Amongst other things, carnosine is able to block glycation reactions where sugars combine with proteins in the body to "caramelize" us as we age. Diabetics caramelize fastest since they have the most blood sugar, but we all caramelize over time. Nothing has been shown to work like carnosine against the ttype of glycation damage.

Longevity & Orthomolecular Medicine
Hello and welcome to Longevity Science News! There's a whole world of natural medicine out there that you may or may not have run across. This site is dedicated to orthomolecular medicine, a term coined by the late Linus Pauling, two time Nobel prize winner. Orthomolecular medicines aren't herbs, although I'll discuss herbs and other plant extracts from time to time. By and large, orthomolecular medicines aren't the typical pharmaceuticals used by physicians. Orthomolecular substances are those that are recognized by the body. They are used in biochemical reactions within the body every day. They include vitamins and minerals, amino acids, enzymes and co-enzymes, natural antioxidants and other substances that keep us alive, they catalyze reactions in the body that let you think, breathe and perform the many other activities that make you you!
You may have been told that there is no scientific basis for natural medicine, but you've been lied to. Over the last 11 years of hosting a weekly radio broadcast, I've read thousands of clinical articles that attest to the fact that these supplements work not only to keep you healthy, but they are superior to drugs to restore health. If your car stopped running and you are stranded beside the highway, wouldn't you at least check the gas gauge to see if you're out of gas before you call a tow truck to have your care hauled into a garage for a complete overhaul? Our bodies are much the same; it's been said accurately that depression isn't a nutritional lack of ProzacĀ®. My good friend, Dr Chris Meletis, likes to say that Hyperactivity isn't a nutritional lack of RitalinĀ® In truth, depression isn't a nutriitonal lack of St. John's Wort either although it's generally a very safe herb except in combination with certain drugs. A low serotonin depression is caused by a lack of the amino acid tryptophan or it's close natural derivative 5-HTP which are the precursors of serotonin in the body. Isn't it a lot better to try to get to the cause of the problem instead of just treating the symptom with a foreign substance chosen to go to market, not because it's better, but because it's patentable?
